More notes

I won't be at the concert tonight at North Rowan. We have had a death in the family. I will be at rehearsal tomorrow.

We will also go ahead and have our dress rehearsal and our party next Wednesday. We'll start at the usual time to keep from confusing everyone!

Reminders

Ladies, please bring your props and wear your outfits for our Broadway Song. Also know your parts and memorize all solos etc...

Have talked to Debbie and she doesn't think that she will have a dress rehearsal on the week of the concert. So we will do our party separate of the band. Still working out details but looks like most can make the dress rehearsal on the 5th instead of 6th. Will be in touch.

Concert opp this Thurs. Let me know if any want to ride with or come with me.

March 26th Notes

So, I want to remind everyone that we don't have class next week - April 2nd - because that is Good Friday/Easter weekend.

We will meet again on April 9th to prepare for our performance on Tuesday, April 13th at the Talent Show. We will meet there at 3:00 that afternoon and then again at 6:45PM. We are usually there around an hour to an hour and a half and I will use some of that time to rehearse in a side room with you all as well as going through our song there on the risers etc. We will be in white and black as for other performances that evening. The following Friday (April 16th) we will NOT meet since we have taken up enough time out of our schedules for that week. Let me know if you have any questions.

For those who are not members of the Rowan Home School Assoc. Here's the details for the night from the lady heading it up:

RCHSA TALENT SHOWCASE

The RCHSA Talent Showcase will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. at the Kannapolis Church of God (also known as West “A” Church of God) in their Harvest House fellowship building.

In the past we have had a variety of entries including poetry/scripture recitation, vocal solos, piano solos, violin solos, instrumental ensembles, dance routines, and choral groups along with some unique performances like karate, magic tricks, and a yo-yo routine. There is a time limit of four minutes per solo or group. Please limit your performance to one piece, song, or dance routine even though it may not take up the entire four minutes. There will be a rehearsal prior to the showcase on April 13 from 3:00-5:00 p.m.

Kannapolis Church of God is located in Kannapolis. From I-85, take exit 63, turn right on Lane Street. Continue on Lane St. which becomes Jackson Park Rd. when you cross N. Cannon Blvd. Then after you cross N. Main St., it becomes N. Loop Road. Turn right on West A Street. (This is at a stoplight halfway down a rather steep hill.) The church is at 2211 West A Street. From Landis, go down S. Main Street. Turn right on West 5th St. This road will become West A Street. The church is on the right at 2211 West A Street.

Project ideas

Richard Rodgers (1902 – 1979) and Oscar Hammerstein II (1895 – 1960) were a well-known American songwriting duo, usually referred to as Rodgers and Hammerstein. They created a string of popular Broadway musicals in the 1940s and 1950s during what is considered the golden age of the medium. With Rodgers composing the music and Hammerstein adding the lyrics, five of their shows, Oklahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music, were outstanding successes. In all, among the many accolades that their shows (and their film versions) garnered were thirty-four Tony Awards,[1] fifteen Academy Awards, the Pulitzer Prize, and two Grammys.

Some of their works include:

* (1943) Oklahoma!
* (1945) Carousel
* (1945) State Fair (film)
* (1947) Allegro
* (1949) South Pacific
* (1951) The King and I
* (1953) Me and Juliet
* (1955) Pipe Dream
* (1957) Cinderella (television)
* (1958) Flower Drum Song
* (1959) The Sound of Music
* (1962) State Fair (film remake, with additional songs by Rodgers)
* (1965) Cinderella (television remake)
* (1993) A Grand Night for Singing (revue)
* (1996) State Fair (stage version)
* (1997) Cinderella (third television version, with additional songs from shows
by Rodgers and Hart)
* (2001) South Pacific (television remake: the storyline generally follows that
of the show and the 1958 film version, but new scenes are added, and
the song "Happy Talk" was omitted as lacking political correctness)
